Julia Alekseyeva

Julia is a Chicagoan/erstwhile Brooklynite who has lived in places as far-flung as Kiev, Paris, Yokohama, and Cambridge. She is finishing her PhD and currently teaching Japanese Film at Brooklyn College. She is also an author-illustrator, and her first graphic novel, Soviet Daughter, will be published in January 2017. When she isn't watching weird movies, she can be found playing with her rescue dog, Leopold Bloom.

 

JENNIFER BERNSTEIN

Jennifer R. Bernstein is a Seattle-based writer of fiction and criticism, and co-founder of The New Inquiry. She tweets @jenniferrenu.

 

SARAH CHAPMAN

Sarah works in the artisanal cheese industry in New York City, and loves almost all cheeses she comes across.  Her current favorite cheese is Rogue Creamery’s Caveman Blue.

Originally from Guatemala City, Ellie has called many major cities, from Chicago to Istanbul, home. When not contributing her wit and spunk to Essentialist magazine, she is also beautifying the world as a hairstylist and makeup artist. HANA SACKLER

Hana Sackler is originally from New York City and lives in Berlin. Hana was an Art Major at Skidmore College concentrating in painting and sculpture, and earned an MFA in Photography at Studio Art Centers International.  Currently, Hana is working with video, sound, and still images investigating the theme of identity and perception. 

Hannah Kang

Hannah Kang is a modern Renaissance woman in art & design. She does it all, from hand calligraphy and illustration to graphic design, printmaking, automotive design and amateur photography. Born in Lubbock, Texas, she bounced around the world to South Korea, New Jersey, and Paris, France, before landing in Detroit, where she studied at the College for Creative Studies. When she's not creating art, you can find her cruising Detroit on her vintage yellow Schwinn or teaching yoga. Once an agent for a major private security contractor, Sean Monterastelli lost his American Citizenship in a high stakes poker match with Paul Bremer in 2005. He is currently based in Istanbul where he acts as a government liaison in the purchasing of law enforcement equipment. LESLIE HICKEY

Leslie Hickey (b. 1983) is a photographer and letterpress printer based in Portland, Oregon. She holds a BA in Studio Art and English from Whitman College. Her photographic work has been exhibited regularly, including a recent solo show at the Jules Maidoff Gallery at Studio Art Centers International in Florence, Italy. She has also been juried into the Pacific NW Photography Viewing Drawers at Blue Sky Gallery in Portland, Oregon. Miykaelah (Rajmani) Sinclair

Miykaelah is based out of Brooklyn. She loves good food, good coffee, good music and plenty of adventure.  Miykaelah graduated from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and has lived in Hyderabad, Madrid, DC and most recently, the Hudson Valley of New York.  She works mostly in the music industry, and is particularly interested in South Asian Music. Michael Rousselet

Michael Rousselet is a writer, director and painter. He is one of the founding members of 5-Second Films and director of the horror/comedy feature "Dude Bro Party Massacre III."  Also he is the jerk who started "The Room" cult phenomenon back in 2003 known as patient-zero.  He's sorry, but not that sorry.

Hatiye is an illustrator and designer based in İstanbul. She holds a degree in Visual Communication Design. Kamilla is currently based in New York City, where she writes code for an on-demand beauty services app. Aside from New York, she's had the pleasure of living in many places, most notably Russia, Canada, Washington (DC), Austin, and London. Before becoming a software engineer she had professional stints in online growth strategy, translation, and economic development. Besides coding, she enjoys reading, exploring the streets of New York, and planning her next great escape.

W.S. Chahanovich

W.S. Chahanovich is an itinerant typist with a penchant for snarky novels and full-bodied Italian red wines. When he is not recovering from surviving Gothic New England winters, he is quaffing good coffee from various ports around the Mediterranean basin. Otherwise, in another dimension, he is writing his Ph.D. on classical Arabic literature.

 

Karly Rodriguez

Karly Rodriguez is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York City (despite threatening to move to California each winter). She is the co-chair of NYC's Hydrocephalus Support Chapter in addition to her work as a psychotherapist, where she specializes in treating survivors of trauma and individuals living with a chronic medical condition. Erkin Gören

Erkin is a musician and visual artist from Istanbul.  He received a degree in painting from Mimar Sinan University and studied Spatial Strategies in Berlin.  He has founded a number of artists initiatives, including Mtaar, an open art space, Horaley, an online visual arts publication, and Reftlight, a collaborative audio experiment.  When he's not plotting his great escape into nature, he teaches painting and illustration to children and is currently working on his first children's book.
